About Sacred Monkey Sanctuary in Ubud
This reserve is run by the nearby village of Padangtegal and it follows the ancient Hindu principle of “Tri Hata Karana” which says that there should be a harmonious relationship between people and other humans, between people and nature and between people and God. The three shrines in the midst of the forests have very lively inhabitants – macaques. Encounter them at a close distance while enjoying a hike on one of the trails. You can freely feed the monkeys with bananas, but be very careful – the monkeys might occasionally bite. Also, it is forbidden to feed the monkeys peanuts or human snacks in general – they would get sick. Most importantly, do not hide the food from them!
