The whole idea of making 360° VR videos started back in 2016 when there wasn’t much content made for the virtual reality space. We were determined to change this and decided to send out a person to travel the world for one year while documenting the entire journey.
Out of hundreds of applicants, we chose Michal Gálik. This young man from Slovakia loves adventure. As an experienced filmmaker, he’d already traveled to many unusual destinations. He had observed mountain gorillas in Congo as well as explored palm oil plantations in Borneo.
The gear we decided to go with was GoPro Omni. The device was essentially a cube holding six Hero4 Black cameras synchronized to act as one. Such a camera let us capture and create the highest-quality 360° VR videos.
The first destination was Michal’s hometown, Prague. After documenting the beauties of Prague, he set off on a trip through Europe, Asia, Australia, and finally, the USA. Along the way, he enjoyed gelato in front of the Milan Cathedral in Italy, partied at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, and tasted scorpions on the streets of Bangkok.
Throughout the year, Michal visited more than 25 countries and shot over 1000 360° VR clips. Thanks to our Youtube Channel, you can now revisit the entire trip from the comfort of your own couch. Sit back and enjoy.
