About Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

Also referred to as the Holocaust Memorial, this monument is dedicated to the memory of the Jewish people killed by the Nazis. The memorial was finished in 2004, it consists of 2711 concrete “stelae” (slabs) of various sizes and was designed by Peter Eisenman. His vision was to create an impression of instability in a seemingly stable (yet machine-like and inhuman) system. However, the visitors usually say that the place reminds them of an abandoned cemetery.
